MANILA, Philippines — Actor Eric Quizon said he is working on a proposed biographical film about his father, comedian Dolphy, focusing on the final weeks before the veteran actor’s death in 2012.
Quizon discussed the project during the April 10 episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” where he said he has been developing the idea for about five weeks with writer-director Bibeth Orteza.
Quizon said the planned film would cover Dolphy’s hospitalization until his death, noting that the period has not been fully understood by the public.
He said the proposed project would focus on the family’s experience during Dolphy’s final days and the limited time relatives were allowed in the intensive care unit, where only one family member could stay at a time.
Quizon also said he recognizes that a two-hour film may not fully capture Dolphy’s six-decade career, which included early work in “Dugo at Bayan” and his final television credit in “Pidol’s Wonderland.”
He recalled the public support his family received during Dolphy’s illness and said it provided encouragement during his hospitalization.
Quizon also discussed his role in managing Dolphy’s estate and said he helped oversee financial arrangements following the actor’s surgery. He said Dolphy later took over handling his own affairs after initially reacting strongly to the arrangement.
Quizon said Dolphy had instructed his children not to conflict over his estate and that the family has worked to follow those wishes.
