SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Zoo announced the arrival of a new giraffe named Jasiri, a one-year-old female now living in the Naylor Savanna habitat.
Zoo officials said Jasiri, whose name means “courageous” in Swahili, came from the Tulsa Zoo and has joined the existing herd alongside giraffes Waffles, Brayden, and Kicheko.
The zoo said Jasiri is showing exploratory behavior as she adjusts to her new environment. Staff described her as curious and active during her initial introduction to the habitat.
Her transfer is part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, a conservation breeding program designed to support and manage populations of threatened species.
Zoo officials said Jasiri is currently being housed in the giraffe barn as she acclimates, with plans to introduce her to the full savanna habitat in the coming weeks.
The San Antonio Zoo said animals in its care are part of broader conservation and public education efforts aimed at supporting wildlife protection programs.
Visitors to the zoo can view Jasiri during her adjustment period and participate in conservation-related experiences offered at the facility.
