SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Commissioners Court will consider funding for 22 outside agencies during its meeting Tuesday, aiming to support programs that improve quality of life for local residents.

Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. at the county courthouse. A total of 243 agencies applied for nearly $10.7 million in funding. Officials narrowed the list to 22 organizations, each proposed to receive grants of $25,000 or $50,000.

The office of County Manager David Smith will execute grant agreements with selected agencies. The programs include services for people experiencing homelessness, individuals who are blind, senior citizens, sexual assault survivors, people with mental illness, at-risk youth, and pregnant teens.

Among the proposed recipients are the San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic, which provides free dental services to low-income residents, and the Animal Defense League, which plans to offer low-cost spay and neuter services.

In separate actions, commissioners will consider proclamations recognizing Fiesta San Antonio, scheduled from April 16 to April 26. Events include Night in Old San Antonio, Taste of New Orleans, and the Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau parades.

Commissioners will also recognize El Rey Feo LXXVII, Damaso Andres Oliva Jr., who represents the El Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation.

Officials will mark the 75th anniversary of Fiesta Cornyation, a satirical event tied to Fiesta celebrations.

One proclamation encourages attendees to avoid drinking and driving during Fiesta, which draws millions of visitors, generates significant economic activity, and raises funds for local charities.
