SAN ANTONIO — Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones on Thursday released two reports on affordable housing and early learning and child care and called on residents to provide input to help guide future city policies.
The reports outline strategies and long-term goals focused on expanding housing access for vulnerable populations and improving availability of early education and child care services across San Antonio.
The mayor’s office said the housing report builds on work by a task force created in August to increase housing supply for groups including veterans with housing vouchers, people with disabilities, older adults, and LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness.
The task force recommended identifying vacant or underused properties near transit corridors and medical facilities for conversion into housing. Other proposals include seeking increased federal funding for housing vouchers and promoting home-sharing initiatives.
City officials said public feedback will help determine next steps as the administration considers implementing the recommendations.
