Texas’ backlogs for Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program applications have surged since January, with more than 210,000 Medicaid applications and 150,000 SNAP applications awaiting processing in August, according to data from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.

The Supreme Court has ruled that an affidavit of desistance from a victim of exploitation cannot serve as grounds to dismiss a human trafficking case, saying such statements can result from coercion, pressure or undue influence.
