NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Twelve participants from the Philippines completed a livestock genetics training program at Stephen F. Austin State University, equipping government and private sector representatives with skills to support cattle breeding and genetic improvement efforts in the Philippines.
The inaugural Training of Trainers program concluded with a completion ceremony attended by Philippine Consul General Gunther Sales, officials from Stephen F. Austin State University and representatives of the Philippines-USA Partnership on Ruminant Livestock Genetic Improvement Program (PUP-RLGIP).

The participants included 10 officials from the Philippine Department of Agriculture and two representatives from the private sector. During the multi-week program, they received instruction in genetic improvement, artificial insemination, embryo transfer and modern cattle breeding techniques.
Organizers said the participants will apply the training to help strengthen cattle production and livestock development in communities across the Philippines.
The program was launched through the Philippine Department of Agriculture’s Office of the Undersecretary for Livestock and Office of the Assistant Secretary for Ruminant Livestock in partnership with PUP-RLGIP, chaired by Archie Tamayo, and Stephen F. Austin State University.
Organizers said the initiative aims to promote livestock development, improve food security and support rural livelihoods while strengthening cooperation between the Philippines and Texas.
