FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Police Department said officers shot and killed two men in separate incidents hours apart in East Fort Worth early Saturday.
Police said officers first responded at about 12:05 a.m. to reports of gunfire in the 4200 block of Wiman Drive. When officers arrived, they heard additional shots and saw a man holding a firearm. Officers issued commands for him to drop the weapon. Police said the man did not comply and pointed the weapon at officers, who then fired and struck him.
Fort Worth police said officers provided medical aid until the Fort Worth Fire Department arrived. Authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene. No officers sustained injuries in the incident.
At about 4:15 a.m., while officers remained at the first scene, police said a white SUV passed the area multiple times at a high rate of speed and appeared to attempt to hit officers. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, prompting a pursuit.
Police said officers ended the chase near I-820 by the East Lancaster exit using a PIT maneuver. Officers approached the vehicle and gave commands, but the driver did not comply and grabbed an officer’s gun, according to police.
Police said multiple officers then fired their weapons and struck the driver. Officers provided medical aid until emergency responders arrived. Authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Fort Worth police said an officer sustained injuries in the second incident and was taken to a hospital. The department said it had not determined how the officer was injured. The officer remained in good condition.
Authorities said they are investigating both shootings.
