EDINBURG, Texas — Members of the Filipino community in the Philippine-American Chamber of Commerce of Texas (PACCTX)- Rio Grande Valley came together on June 6, 2026, for a vibrant celebration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day Celebration (Edinburg 2026), featuring performances that highlighted Filipino heritage and artistic tradition.
Held at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium, the program brought together various community groups and organizations in a night of cultural presentations, songs, and dances celebrating Philippine Independence.
A standout moment of the event was the performance of the traditional dance Pagapir, executed by a group of community members under the SANLAHI RGV. The performance was widely praised by participants for its coordination and precision, following extensive rehearsals led by choreographer Angelita Rivera.
In a social media reflection after the event, performers described the demanding preparation process, which included rehearsals after work shifts, coordination among healthcare workers and educators, and final refinements leading up to the presentation. Despite busy schedules, the group emphasized their shared commitment to preserving Filipino cultural traditions.
“Im so proud of these ladies, to execute Pagapir almost flawlessly,” Rhodora Tonel Elizondo said on a Facebook post.
Community members involved in the production credited teamwork across nurses, teachers, retirees, and volunteers who contributed both onstage and behind the scenes, including assistance with styling and makeup.
The celebration was organized in cooperation with PACCTX RGV Region and supported by various Filipino community groups and partners across Texas.
Participating organizations included Arnulfo Tatoy Foundation, RGV Children, RGV Teens, Tropa Kasaya, SANLAHI, FSA, PNAST RGV, BOHOL, and TARA BINGO. The program showcased performances that reflected Filipino identity, unity, and pride among both youth and adult participants.
Organizers emphasized that the celebration served not only as a cultural showcase but also as a tribute to Filipino resilience and the importance of preserving heritage for future generations.

The event was supported by partners including Jojemar Home Health, Majestic Staffing LLC, RGV Family Clinic, WSB South Texas Financial, and Education Center, PAC RGV.
As the Filipino community gathered in celebration, the event stood as a reflection of shared history and pride—honoring the past while strengthening cultural identity for the future.
