GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — The Filipino Leaders Coalition of North Texas (FILCON) successfully commemorated the 128th Philippine Independence Day on June 6, 2026, through its signature event, “KALAYAAN: Kalayaan, Kasaysayan, Kinabukasan,” held at Asia Times Square.

The day-long celebration brought together Filipino Americans, community leaders, cultural advocates, performers, entrepreneurs, and families in a vibrant tribute to Philippine freedom, history, and the future of the Filipino diaspora.

Running from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the event featured three major components designed to showcase the richness of Filipino culture and heritage.

One of the highlights was “History Comes Alive: The Philippine Story,” an educational presentation that revisited the nation’s journey toward independence and honored the sacrifices of Filipino heroes whose courage shaped the country’s history.

The celebration also featured “Kantayawan,” a music concert showcasing talented Filipino performers and bands. Throughout the day, guests enjoyed live entertainment, music, and dance performances that reflected the creativity and spirit of the Filipino community in North Texas.

Adding to the festive atmosphere was the “Tiangge” Food and Retail Booth, where attendees explored a variety of Filipino cuisine, products, and small businesses. The marketplace provided an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to connect with the community while sharing authentic Filipino flavors and merchandise.

FILCON leaders emphasized that the event’s theme, “Kalayaan, Kasaysayan, Kinabukasan” (Freedom, History, Future), serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving Filipino heritage while inspiring younger generations to carry forward the values and traditions that define the Filipino identity.

The celebration concluded with a renewed sense of unity and pride among attendees, reinforcing the organization’s mission of bringing together Filipinos across North Texas through culture, education, and community engagement.

As the Filipino community continues to grow and thrive in Texas, events such as KALAYAAN demonstrate the enduring connection between Filipino Americans and their heritage—honoring the past, celebrating the present, and looking toward the future.
