MADRID — FC Barcelona completed a perfect home campaign in La Liga on Sunday, defeating Real Betis 3-1 at Camp Nou in what became an emotional farewell for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona finished the season with 19 wins in 19 home league matches, capping off a dominant domestic run after already securing its second straight La Liga title two rounds earlier.
The club announced Saturday that Lewandowski, 37, will leave Barcelona after four seasons with the Catalan side.
Raphinha scored twice while João Cancelo added another goal to secure the victory in Barcelona’s final home match of the season.
Lewandowski leaves the Spanish giants after helping the club win three La Liga titles and one Copa del Rey during his four-year stint. He scored 119 goals in 192 appearances for Barcelona.
Following the match, teammates tossed the Polish striker into the air and formed a guard of honor as he headed toward the locker room.
“It has been an honor to play for this club,” Lewandowski said after the match. “We’ve enjoyed some great moments in these four years. I am very proud of everything we have achieved together.”
Elsewhere in Spain, Antoine Griezmann also bid farewell to supporters of Atlético Madrid ahead of his reported move to Major League Soccer in the United States. Atlético defeated Girona FC 1-0 at the Metropolitano Stadium.
