MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala will represent the Philippines at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games despite a tight international schedule that includes the US Open and Singapore Open, the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) confirmed Friday.

Philta Secretary General John Rey Tiangco said Eala has committed to competing in the Asian Games in Japan, which will follow her scheduled tournaments in the United States and Singapore.

“We are very excited, and it’s confirmed that she’s playing the Asian Games,” Tiangco said.

Eala is set to compete at the US Open before traveling to Singapore for a WTA 500 tournament. She will then fly to Nagoya for the Asian Games.

“She chose to play for the flag. We’re really proud and very happy that she can represent the Philippines,” Tiangco said.

Eala won two bronze medals at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, finishing third in women’s singles and mixed doubles.

She also represented the Philippines at last year’s Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, where she won the women’s singles gold medal.

Tiangco said Eala remains motivated when she competes for the country and expressed confidence in her Asian Games campaign.

Eala enters the US Open as the No. 17 seed and will face a qualifier in the first round.

The 20-year-old Filipino has reached a career-high No. 18 in the world rankings, won her first WTA Tour title at the Mubadala DC Open and advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon this year.
