The Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) 2025 kicks off with the premiere of “Eraserheads: Combo on the Run” at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre. Scheduled for March 4 at 3:30 PM, this documentary highlights the impact of one of the Philippines’ most notable rock groups, Eraserheads. The band, known for its significant influence on Filipino music, comprises Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro. The film is directed by Maria Diane Ventura, who will attend the opening alongside special guests.

“Eraserheads: Combo on the Run” is among the most anticipated documentaries in recent Philippine cinema. Ventura’s film previously drew attention at Comic Con 2024, where its trailer was unveiled to an enthusiastic audience and quickly gained traction online. The screening at MIFF marks a work-in-progress presentation, offering attendees a glimpse into the evolving narrative of this influential band.

Ventura describes the documentary as a deep exploration into the band’s legacy and personal dynamics. In a previously published interview, she shared her experience with the film, citing the band’s transparency as transformative. Ventura reflected on how the members’ openness provided new insights into their story, allowing her to deepen the film’s narrative. The documentary aims to resonate with audiences by offering a candid look into the band’s mythology and cultural significance.

The Manila International Film Festival is also set to showcase additional films, including Real Florido’s romance “Everything About My Wife” and Christian Acuña’s action-adventure “Magikland.” These films join the four-day festival lineup, with screenings at the TCL Chinese Theatre.

Festival attendees will have the opportunity to vote for audience awards, including categories like Best Picture, Best Director, and acting honors. The talents behind the showcased films will participate in Q&A sessions following the screenings, enhancing the interactive experience for film enthusiasts.

In a gesture of gratitude, MIFF is providing complimentary tickets to first responders, frontliners, and healthcare professionals. Interested parties can access these tickets for any screening of their choice, including Regina Aquino’s documentary “Faith Healers,” by filling out an online form.

For families and youth, especially choir members, MIFF offers a discount promotion for King Palisoc’s “Song of the Fireflies.” This drama-musical stars Morissette and Rachel Alejandro and focuses on the true story of the Loboc Children’s Choir. The choir, hailing from a small town in Bohol, achieved international recognition, and the film celebrates their inspiring journey. The discount code, FIREFLIES25, aims to make the film more accessible to a broader audience.
