A DoorDash delivery to the White House and a press conference on Iran, the Pope, and domestic policy unfolded Monday as US President Donald Trump took questions from reporters in Washington, D.C., while highlighting his administration’s “no tax on tips” policy.
The White House event began when delivery worker Sharon Simmons handed Trump two bags of McDonald’s food outside the Oval Office. Trump received the delivery in front of reporters and briefly spoke with Simmons, who was identified by DoorDash as a grandmother of 10 from Arkansas.
The administration said the event was intended to promote Trump’s tax policy on tipped income, which he said had resulted in an $11,000 rebate for Simmons. Trump referenced the policy during the interaction and spoke about its impact on workers who receive tips.
During the same appearance, Trump fielded questions from reporters on multiple topics, including Iran, relations with the Vatican, and a recent social media post involving an AI-generated image depicting him as Jesus Christ. Trump confirmed he posted the image and said he believed it related to the Red Cross and medical themes.
Trump also responded to questions about criticism from Pope Leo XIV regarding US policy on Iran. He said he disagreed with the Pope’s position and reiterated his stance that Iran should not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.
The press conference also included discussion of the administration’s policy banning transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports. Trump asked Simmons for her opinion on the issue during the event, and she declined to comment.
At the end of the interaction, Trump gave Simmons cash after a reporter asked whether White House guests are good tippers.
