HOUSTON, Texas– Former Houston City Council member Amanda Edwards has officially announced her candidacy for Texas’ 18th Congressional District, marking her third campaign effort in less than two years.
Edwards, who previously ran for the seat twice, is now seeking to represent the district, known for its diverse and vibrant population.
Edwards first sought to challenge the late U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee in the Democratic primary but was unsuccessful.
After Jackson Lee’s passing, Edwards made another attempt to fill the vacancy in the upcoming 2024 general election, facing competition from the late U.S. Representative Sylvester Turner.
Despite these setbacks, Edwards remains determined and is now entering the race again with a focus on addressing key issues facing the district.
The 18th Congressional District, a seat historically held by Jackson Lee, has been influential in advocating for civil rights and community issues.
Edwards brings experience from her time on the Houston City Council, where she focused on economic development, infrastructure improvements, and community engagement.
