HOUSTON, Texas– Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against a school district in North Texas, accusing it of violating state law by teaching critical race theory (CRT) in its curriculum.

The lawsuit, filed by Paxton’s office, alleges that the district’s curriculum includes materials that implicitly endorse CRT, despite the state law passed by the Texas Legislature in 2021, which restricts the teaching of certain race-related concepts in schools.

Although the district’s name has not been publicly disclosed, the lawsuit claims that educational materials in the district emphasize systemic racism and privilege, and suggest that individuals are responsible for actions committed by others of the same race in the past.

Attorney General Paxton, a vocal opponent of CRT, stated that the lawsuit is intended to ensure compliance with state education laws.

He emphasized that school administrators must adhere to the law, and those who do not will face legal consequences.

The district has yet to release a public statement on the matter, but the lawsuit has sparked a range of opinions among educators and administrators in Texas.
