Texas takes No. 1 as Texas A&M climbs to No. 9 in AP Top 25

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M climbed to No. 9 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 college football poll Sunday after a 48-20 victory over Arizona State, while Texas took the No. 1 spot after rallying past previously top-ranked Ohio State.

Texas moved up three spots after overcoming a 20-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Ohio State 24-23. The comeback marked the largest fourth-quarter rally for a victory against an AP No. 1 team, according to Sportradar.

The Longhorns received 56 first-place votes and reached No. 1 during the regular season for the first time since Oct. 13, 2024.

Georgia remained No. 2, while Notre Dame held No. 3. Indiana moved to No. 4 and Miami climbed to No. 5.

Ohio State fell five spots to No. 6, its lowest ranking since the Buckeyes entered the 2024 College Football Playoff at No. 6. LSU ranked No. 7, followed by Mississippi at No. 8, Texas A&M at No. 9 and Alabama at No. 10.

Texas A&M improved one spot after its victory over Arizona State and remains undefeated at 2-0.

Oregon recorded the biggest drop in the poll, falling 15 spots to No. 21 after losing 39-31 on the road to Oklahoma State. The Ducks allowed 554 yards and suffered their first loss to an unranked opponent since 2021.

Michigan returned to the rankings at No. 19 after defeating No. 11 Oklahoma 17-10. Oklahoma dropped 13 spots to No. 24.

Washington dropped out of the Top 25 after struggling past Utah State 16-14. The Huskies became the first 2-0 team to win and fall out of the rankings since 2014.

The SEC leads all conferences with nine ranked teams, including six in the top 10. The Big Ten has seven ranked teams, while the Big 12 and ACC each have four.
