HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro on Tuesday criticized the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement operations following the fatal shooting of a 34-year-old man by federal agents in Minneapolis during an immigration-related operation.

The shooting occurred during an enforcement action in Minnesota and involved federal agents, according to reports. The victim died at the scene. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances of the encounter.

Shapiro said the incident raises concerns about the safety of immigration enforcement operations and their impact on communities. He called for a reassessment of federal immigration strategies in Minnesota, citing the risk such operations pose to civilians.

In a press briefing, Shapiro said aggressive enforcement tactics can increase fear among residents, particularly within immigrant communities, and urged federal authorities to reconsider their approach. He said local law enforcement agencies should play a greater role and that enforcement actions should not place lives at risk.

Shapiro also criticized South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem for supporting federal immigration policies, saying elected officials should be held accountable for policies that affect public safety.

In Minneapolis, community leaders and residents expressed concern following the shooting. Advocacy groups organized protests opposing aggressive immigration enforcement and called for changes to federal policy. Some residents said the incident heightened fears that routine immigration actions could escalate into violence.
