LOS ANGELES — Presley Gerber, the model and son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died Sunday at 27, a family representative said.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office said Gerber died Sept. 20 at a rehabilitation facility. The office has not publicly listed a cause of death.
Allie Jenkins, a representative for Crawford and Rande Gerber, confirmed his death Sunday night and asked for privacy for the family.
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” Jenkins said in an email.
Authorities have not disclosed when Gerber entered the rehabilitation facility or what led to his death.
Gerber, who also modeled professionally, was the older brother of model and actress Kaia Gerber.
In one of his final Instagram posts, Gerber discussed his struggles with addiction and a psychedelic treatment known as ibogaine. He posted a video in March showing him undergoing an ibogaine treatment and wrote that he hoped it would be the last time he needed to return for treatment.
Crawford responded to the post, praising her son for confronting his struggles.
Gerber also used his Instagram account for a series of posts he called “Mental Health Mondays,” where he discussed mental health and his personal experiences.
Kaia Gerber discussed her brother’s addiction struggles in an August interview with Vogue. She said the experience affected the family and influenced how she handled her own needs for help.
“There’s only so much you can hide from the world, and trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them,” Kaia said.
Crawford and Rande Gerber married in 1998. In a May interview with PEOPLE, Crawford spoke about working with her husband and children on a clothing campaign and said she felt proud that her children loved and supported each other.
Crawford and Rande Gerber also discussed adjusting to life as empty nesters, while emphasizing that their children remained a priority.
Gerber’s last public appearance came in June, when he joined his parents at the We Are ENOUGH x Aviator Nation launch event in Malibu, according to PEOPLE.
He participated in a panel discussion about mental health during the event.
