Sabrina Carpenter, Margaret Qualley and Talia Ryder have joined the cast of the upcoming Fred Astaire biopic, which will star Tom Holland as the legendary actor and dancer.

Carpenter will play Ginger Rogers, Astaire’s longtime co-star and dance partner, while Qualley will portray Adele Astaire, Fred’s older sister and original dance partner. Ryder will play June Allyson, a fellow dancer and MGM actress.

Paul King will direct the film and co-write the screenplay with Steven Levenson. The project draws from Kathleen Riley’s book “The Astaires: Fred & Adele.”

“I am thrilled and honored to have been entrusted with telling the story of Fred Astaire and his original dance partner—his big sister Adele—to the big screen,” King said.

King noted that Astaire left a lasting legacy through his work in film, particularly his collaborations with Rogers, while Adele’s career received less attention and no surviving footage documents her dancing.

“The cinematic challenge of bringing to life these icons of the twentieth century is one that I could not imagine without Tom Holland, Margaret Qualley and Sabrina Carpenter by my side,” King said.

Astaire built a seven-decade career across film and stage, including Broadway and London’s West End. He died in 1987 at age 88.

The filmmakers have not disclosed further details about the biopic, including its release date.
