COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M fell 14 spots to No. 23 in the latest AP Top 25 after Kentucky stunned the No. 9 Aggies, 31-21, in their home opener and first SEC game of the season.
Kentucky entered the game unranked but handed Texas A&M its first loss of the season Saturday, marking the Wildcats’ first victory over a ranked opponent since they defeated No. 6 Mississippi in 2024.
The Aggies and Wildcats entered halftime tied 7-7 before Kentucky took control in the third quarter.
Kentucky quarterback Kenny Minchey opened the second half with a touchdown pass to Kenny Darby, giving the Wildcats the lead.
Kentucky added two more touchdowns on consecutive possessions before Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed answered with a touchdown run to cut the deficit to 28-14.
The Aggies later trimmed Kentucky’s lead with a field goal and another touchdown run, but could not complete the comeback.
Texas A&M will travel to Baton Rouge on Saturday, Sept. 26, to face LSU in its next SEC matchup.
