Mariah Carey, Barry Manilow and other recording artists mourned the death of music executive Clive Davis, who died Monday at his apartment in Manhattan at the age of 94, according to a statement from his family.
The family said Davis “discovered, mentored, and championed the greatest artists in modern music history” and added that he left a lasting cultural impact.
Artists including Carlos Santana, Barry Manilow, Michael Bublé and Patti Smith paid tribute to Davis in public statements and social media posts following his death.
Santana described Davis as “a visionary,” while Manilow said their decades of collaboration showed that music was “family” to Davis rather than just business. Bublé said Davis believed in people and their dreams, and Smith thanked him for decades of support.
Davis worked with a wide range of artists over his career, including Whitney Houston and Santana, and was credited with launching and reviving several major recording careers in the music industry.
Family members said further details about memorial arrangements will be announced later.
