WASHINGTON — Liam Neeson and Zachary Levi star in “The Fix,” an action thriller about former CIA operators who enter Tehran for a rescue mission after a failed operation in Afghanistan, with the film opening in theaters Friday, Sept. 11.
The film follows a group of CIA operators whose mission in Afghanistan ends in tragedy. The team then travels to Tehran to seek redemption through a dangerous rescue operation.
Levi plays Tucker, the group’s leader, while Neeson plays Larry, the team’s mentor.
“It’s layered in drama and action and mystery and twists and turns and the humanity that underlies all of it,” Levi said.
Neeson said the script from writer and director Guy Moshe drew him to the project because it combines action and a heist story with a human element. Moshe previously served as a special operations soldier in the late 1990s.
The film begins as a war story centered on the U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan before shifting into a heist thriller.
Levi said the cast and crew filmed most of the movie in the Republic of Georgia, where the production worked with a local crew and other team members who traveled to the country.
“It’s like your own little army, and you go to war to go make these things a reality,” Levi said.
Neeson, who has starred in action films including “Taken,” “The Grey” and “Non-Stop,” takes a smaller role in the film’s fight sequences.
“I didn’t give them advice. I was a little bit jealous that I was missing out on that stuff,” Neeson said.
Neeson filmed his scenes in Jackson, Mississippi, and did not travel to Georgia for the production.
“The Fix” opens in theaters Friday, Sept. 11.
