A live-action television series centered on the fairy Tinker Bell is currently in development for the streaming platform Disney+, according to international entertainment outlets.
The project, tentatively titled “Tink,” is being written and executive-produced by television creators Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter, who previously collaborated on the acclaimed drama Friday Night Lights.
The series will be produced by 20th Television, with Gary Marsh and Quinn Haberman serving as executive producers. Marsh is known for developing Disney franchises such as Hannah Montana and High School Musical.
Plot details, casting and a release date have not yet been announced.
The character Tinker Bell first appeared in J. M. Barrie’s 1904 play Peter Pan, where she is introduced as the loyal fairy companion of Peter Pan. She later became widely known through The Walt Disney Company’s animated adaptation Peter Pan.
The character has since appeared in numerous films and television adaptations, including the Disney Fairies animated movie franchise released between 2006 and 2015.
Earlier attempts to develop a live-action Tinker Bell project involved actresses Elizabeth Banks and Reese Witherspoon, though those versions never moved forward.
Most recently, Yara Shahidi portrayed the fairy in the live-action film Peter Pan & Wendy.
