South Korean actress Kim Go-eun and actor Kim Jae-won discussed their roles and character development in the third season of “Yumi’s Cells,” which concluded on May 4 on HBO Max, in an email interview with Inquirer Entertainment.

Kim Go-eun reprised her role as Yu-mi, a 30-something novelist who has achieved professional success but continues to search for meaning in her personal life. She described Yu-mi as someone who appears mature at work while still showing emotional immaturity in certain situations. She also said she focused on revisiting the character’s core traits and building on-screen chemistry with Kim Jae-won.

Kim Jae-won portrayed Shin Soon-rok, a character described as calm and rational who experiences emotional changes after meeting Yu-mi. He said he worked to accurately portray the character and manage the expectations associated with joining an established series.

The third season depicts the development of the relationship between Yu-mi and Soon-rok after they resolve their differences and enter into a relationship.

Production teams filmed several scenes in Busan, including train sequences involving the two main characters, which Kim Go-eun identified as notable moments during filming.

“Yumi’s Cells” season three consists of eight episodes and continues the story first introduced in 2021, when Yu-mi’s experiences were depicted through animated cells representing her emotions and decision-making processes.
