MANILA, Philippines — Actor Dennis Trillo appeared to react to Patrick Garcia’s description of himself as a “dedicated” father after a 2024 interview resurfaced amid renewed discussion about Garcia’s relationship with his son with actress Jennylyn Mercado.
Garcia made the remark during his 2024 appearance on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” when host Boy Abunda asked him to describe himself as a father. Garcia answered “dedicated” and also described himself as a “loving” husband and son.
GMA Network reposted a clip from the interview on Instagram Thursday, Oct. 1, days after Garcia addressed allegations that he abandoned Mercado while she was pregnant with their son, Jazz, in 2008.
Trillo, who is married to Mercado, commented on GMA Network’s post, writing, “The struggle is real.”
He followed with another comment: “Mahilig din akong mag-dedicate ng mga kanta as a father.”
Trillo later posted on Threads and called for an end to the online criticism surrounding the issue.
“Simula bukas, tigil na po ang bashing ok? Magmahalan na tayo ulit. Past is past. Magpapasko na at kawawa na ang mga bata,” he wrote.
Trillo had earlier drawn attention after posting a cryptic remark about washing one’s hands in a “sewer,” which some social media users connected to Garcia. Trillo did not identify Garcia in that post.
Garcia recently denied claims that he abandoned Mercado during her pregnancy. He said in a separate interview that he last saw Jazz in 2017 and had provided financial support for his son.
Garcia has not publicly responded to Trillo’s latest remarks as of Thursday.
