SAN ANTONIO, Texas– Health officials in Comal County have confirmed the presence of avian influenza in local vulture populations in the New Braunfels area.

Officials are stressing the importance of reporting any unusual behavior in local wildlife.

Comal County residents are encouraged to notify authorities if they observe sick or abnormal birds. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to limit the spread of avian influenza and ensure public safety.

Avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, primarily affects birds and can have severe consequences for poultry populations.

Though human transmission is rare, some strains of the virus have been known to infect humans, raising concerns about possible health risks.

The detection of bird flu in local vultures has raised alarms, particularly regarding its potential effects on both wildlife and human health.

Local health authorities are working with wildlife experts to monitor the situation, conducting tests and surveillance to assess the extent of the virus in the area.

Residents are urged to follow guidelines to prevent the virus from spreading. Health officials advise avoiding direct contact with wildlife, especially sick or dead birds, and taking precautions to protect pets by keeping them away from affected areas.

Health officials emphasize proper hygiene when handling poultry products and recommend thorough cooking to eliminate any risk of infection.

Additionally, residents are encouraged to report any unusual bird deaths or abnormal behavior to authorities, aiding in early detection and effective management of the virus.
