MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo de Davao University retired the No. 2 jersey of former basketball player Rene Baterbonia and renamed its senior high school covered court after him on Monday, one week after he died during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora.

The university announced the tributes in a Facebook post, stating that it had retired Baterbonia’s jersey number and renamed the facility the Rene “Bobet” Baterbonia Covered Court.

The school said the measures recognize Baterbonia’s contributions as a student-athlete.

Baterbonia, 19, died during a team-building activity of the Ateneo de Manila University men’s basketball team in Aurora on June 8. Fellow student-athlete Divine Adili also died in the incident.

Before joining Ateneo de Manila, Baterbonia played for Ateneo de Davao and represented the Davao Region in the Palarong Pambansa.

Baterbonia was set to begin his collegiate basketball career with the Ateneo Blue Eagles in UAAP Season 89.
