EDINBURG, Texas — The Filipino Leaders Coalition of North Texas (FILCON Texas), d.b.a. FILCON, successfully celebrated the 128th Philippine Independence Day on June 6, 2026, at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium, bringing together Filipino families, leaders, and community organizations across the Rio Grande Valley.
With the theme “Kalayaan, Kasaysayan at Kinabukasan” (Freedom, History, and Future), the event honored Philippine heritage through cultural performances, traditional dances, songs, and presentations that highlighted the nation’s history and enduring spirit of independence.
The celebration was organized in cooperation with PACCTX RGV Region and supported by various Filipino community groups and partners across Texas.
Participating organizations included Arnulfo Tatoy Foundation, RGV Children, RGV Teens, Tropa Kasaya, SANLAHI, FSA, PNAST RGV, BOHOL, and TARA BINGO. The program showcased performances that reflected Filipino identity, unity, and pride among both youth and adult participants.
Community members described the event as the result of weeks of preparation, with many participants balancing demanding work schedules in healthcare, education, and other professions. One participant, Rhodora Tonel Elizondo, highlighted the dedication behind their cultural presentation, noting extensive rehearsals and collaboration among nurses, teachers, retirees, and volunteers. She credited choreographer Angelita Rivera and fellow contributors for their teamwork and commitment in executing the performance.
“Im so proud of these ladies, to execute Pagapir almost flawlessly,” Elizondo said.
Organizers emphasized that the celebration served not only as a cultural showcase but also as a tribute to Filipino resilience and the importance of preserving heritage for future generations.

The event was supported by partners including Jojemar Home Health, Majestic Staffing LLC, RGV Family Clinic, WSB South Texas Financial, and Education Center, PAC RGV.
As the Filipino community gathered in celebration, the event stood as a reflection of shared history and pride—honoring the past while strengthening cultural identity for the future.
