Sam Smith and Christian Cowan sparked engagement rumors following their appearance at the 2026 Met Gala, according to a report by Page Six.
The outlet cited an unnamed “hotel lobby spy” who claimed the couple discussed a private engagement during the event.
“From what I understand, it was a private engagement. They are over the moon, and from what I hear, so in love!” the unnamed source was quoted as saying.
Page Six also reported that a second unidentified source confirmed the alleged engagement, although no additional details were disclosed.
Neither Smith nor Cowan has publicly confirmed or denied the reports as of writing.
Smith, who uses they/them pronouns, attended the Met Gala wearing a heavily beaded black robe designed by Cowan. Cowan wore a black embellished suit.
The pair first sparked dating rumors in December 2022 after they were seen together in New York. They later made their relationship public during the 2024 Met Gala.
In a 2022 interview, Smith said they preferred to keep their relationships private.
“I’ve decided that I will always keep that private now,” Smith said. “I think being loved by someone is such a gift.”
