Rihanna was reportedly the target of an attempted shooting at her Los Angeles mansion earlier this month, as authorities revealed that Ivana Lisette Ortiz, a 35-year-old woman from Orlando, Florida, fired approximately 20 rounds from a semi-automatic weapon at the property.
Ortiz was charged with one count of attempted murder, 10 felony counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling. She pleaded not guilty on March 25 in Los Angeles Superior Court. Bail was set at US$1.875 million (S$2.4 million), and if convicted, Ortiz could face life in prison.
Prosecutors said that Rihanna, her partner A$AP Rocky, and their three young children were inside a trailer on the property at the time, but no one was injured. Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott emphasized that Ortiz’s actions “easily could have resulted in numerous homicides.”
After the incident, Ortiz fled the scene but was arrested shortly afterward in Los Angeles. She was reportedly found in a car with the rifle used in the attack and a wig intended to disguise her appearance.
Rihanna, known for hits like “We Found Love” and “Umbrella”, is a nine-time Grammy Award winner.
