SABINE PASS, Texas – A scaffolding collapse early Tuesday morning at the Port Arthur LNG construction site in Sabine Pass resulted in the deaths of three workers and injuries to two others, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. at the facility located off Highway 87. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collapse. The two injured workers received immediate medical attention; their conditions have not been disclosed.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse. Officials are working to determine whether safety protocols were followed and if any violations occurred.
The identities of the deceased have not been released pending notification of their families.
Bechtel, the contractor managing construction at the site, suspended all operations following the incident.
In a statement, the company expressed condolences to the victims’ families and affirmed its commitment to worker safety.
Construction at the Port Arthur LNG facility involves hundreds of workers and operates 24 hours a day. The accident has raised concerns about site safety and the risks associated with large-scale industrial projects.
OSHA’s investigation will focus on identifying the factors that contributed to the collapse and evaluating whether existing safety measures were adequate.
