The United States government is providing additional financial support to the Philippines in response to the devastating effects of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, also known internationally as Trami.
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced an augmented aid package amounting to PHP 196 million, equivalent to USD 3.5 million. This assistance aims to reinforce ongoing recovery and relief efforts in the affected areas.
Severe Tropical Storm Kristine caused significant damage and disruption throughout several regions in the Philippines. The storm brought extreme weather conditions, resulting in widespread flooding and destruction.
Many communities have been displaced, and the infrastructure has suffered considerable damage. The financial aid from the US is intended to assist the Philippine government in addressing these urgent needs.
The aid package includes vital components such as food assistance, emergency shelter, sanitation, and hygiene support. USAID will collaborate closely with local authorities and organizations to ensure swift delivery of these resources to those most in need.
The support aims to address the immediate needs of affected communities, as well as contribute to longer-term recovery and rebuilding efforts.
This new financial commitment from the US government follows a previous donation of PHP 84 million, or approximately USD 1.5 million, in aid shortly after the storm hit.
This brings the total US assistance for this disaster to PHP 280 million, or approximately USD 5 million. The USAID is coordinating with local governments and humanitarian partners in the Philippines to ensure the effective distribution of aid and resources.
The US Embassy in the Philippines has expressed its solidarity with the affected communities and reiterated its commitment to supporting recovery efforts.
In addition to providing financial aid, the United States is also offering technical expertise to aid in recovery and rebuilding efforts.
