WASHINGTON D.C. — U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran on Thursday against imposing fees on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz after reports emerged that Tehran may be charging tankers using the route.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Iran “better not” impose such charges and called for them to stop if they are being collected.
He issued a second post minutes later saying oil would begin flowing through the strait “with or without the help of Iran.”
Iran recently agreed to reopen the strategic waterway as part of a two-week ceasefire arrangement.
