MANILA, Philippines — Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick will return to Philippine cinemas for a limited run beginning May 13, according to SM Cinemas.

Cinema chain SM Cinemas said the screenings are part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the original film, which first premiered in 1986.

The original “Top Gun” stars Tom Cruise as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a U.S. Navy fighter pilot sent to train at the elite Fighter Weapons School. The cast also includes Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer, Tom Skerritt, Tim Robbins, Meg Ryan, and Anthony Edwards.

Cruise returned to the role in “Top Gun: Maverick,” released in 2022, where his character trains a new generation of pilots, including Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, played by Miles Teller. The film also features Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Lewis Pullman, Monica Barbaro, Ed Harris, and Glen Powell.

Val Kilmer reprised his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the sequel, marking one of his final screen appearances before his death in 2025.

The films’ distributor, Paramount Pictures, has also confirmed development of a third “Top Gun” installment, with Cruise and producer Jerry Bruckheimer expected to return.
