DENTON, Texas — Anjanelle Risley continues to volunteer at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton at age 95, 27 years after retiring from a career as an accountant in the oil and gas industry.

Risley works in the hospital’s surgery waiting room near the main lobby, where she answers phones and assists patients with navigation. She works a three- to four-hour shift at least once a week.

Risley said she began volunteering after retirement to stay active and to remain engaged in meaningful work.

Hospital volunteer manager Melissa East said Risley is the oldest of about 60 volunteers at the facility. East said Risley has volunteered in multiple departments since 1999, including human resources and the surgery waiting room.

Hospital president Jeff Reecer said Risley has served the hospital for 27 years.

Risley said she plans to continue volunteering as long as she is able and will take her involvement day by day.
