Tapales moves up to featherweight after Oguni loss

MANILA, Philippines — Marlon Tapales lost a unanimous decision to Yukinori Oguni in a super bantamweight bout Friday at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

The judges scored the fight 96-94, 97-94, and 98-92 in favor of Oguni. Tapales weighed in at 123.56 pounds, 0.06 pounds over the limit, while Oguni made 123 pounds.

In a Facebook post Saturday, Tapales acknowledged the loss and said he plans to move up to featherweight. “This is life, you win some and you lose some. The important thing is to keep getting up,” he wrote.

The loss is Tapales’ fifth in a professional career of 41 wins. Oguni improved his record to 24-4-3.
