DALLAS — Two suspects face capital murder charges after a shooting following a gas station altercation left a pregnant woman injured and resulted in the death of her unborn child, according to a Dallas Police arrest affidavit.
Dallas police responded at about 12:40 a.m. on May 3 to a shooting in the 4700 block of Wimbelton Way, where officers found three victims. One victim told officers she was pregnant and had been shot multiple times. Authorities said she was transported to a hospital, where medical staff determined the unborn child had been shot and did not survive.
According to the affidavit, the incident began earlier at a 7-Eleven gas station at 4710 Buckner Boulevard, where a driver in the victims’ vehicle became involved in a physical altercation with one of the suspects, identified as Keyner Ariel Calero Jiron, 20. After the confrontation, the driver returned to the vehicle, and a verbal exchange followed.
A juvenile passenger reported seeing a green laser inside a suspect vehicle before hearing gunshots. Investigators said the victims then drove away northbound on Buckner Boulevard while Calero Jiron and a second suspect, identified as Yeremy Alexander Zapata Aleman, 17, followed in another vehicle. Surveillance video reviewed by investigators showed gunfire directed at the victims’ vehicle during the pursuit.
Police said a separate vehicle traveling southbound was struck by gunfire during the incident but the driver was not injured.
Officers located Calero Jiron’s vehicle later that morning and attempted a traffic stop around 6:20 a.m. The driver fled, ran multiple stoplights, and was briefly lost by police near Peak Street and Worth Street. Officers later found the vehicle again around 6:50 a.m. on Chariot Drive, where it crashed after attempting to flee a second time.
Investigators said they recovered cocaine from Calero Jiron’s clothing and MDMA from the vehicle where Zapata Aleman had been seated.
Calero Jiron faces nine charges, including capital murder, five counts of aggravated assault, evading arrest, possession of cocaine, and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Zapata Aleman faces seven charges, including capital murder, five counts of aggravated assault, and possession of cocaine.
Police have not announced attorneys for either suspect.
Residents near the area told local media they have noticed increased violence in the neighborhood and expressed concern about safety following the shooting.
