MANILA, Philippines — “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” earned P95.93 million on its opening day in the Philippines, setting new local box office records and ranking as the country’s third-biggest opening day ever.
The Tom Holland-led film opened nationwide on Wednesday, July 29, and generated P95,930,965 in its first 24 hours, according to Columbia Pictures.
The film posted the biggest opening-day gross in the Philippines since the pandemic. Only “Avengers: Endgame” and “Avengers: Infinity War” recorded bigger opening days in the country.
“Brand New Day” also set the highest opening-day gross for any “Spider-Man” film and any Sony Pictures release in the Philippines.
Columbia Pictures reported that cinemas at SM Megamall, Trinoma and Power Plant recorded more than P2 million each on opening day.
Fourteen other cinemas also earned at least P1 million, with SM cinemas in Baguio, Dasmariñas and Lanang among the top-performing locations.
The film follows Peter Parker, played by Holland, as he lives in a world where people have forgotten his identity after he sacrificed his personal connections to protect those closest to him.
MJ, played by Zendaya, and Ned, played by Jacob Batalon, no longer remember Peter, while he continues his life as Spider-Man.
The film introduces a mysterious figure capable of jumping between consciousnesses, adding another threat as Peter struggles with the consequences of losing his former identity and relationships.
