South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held an unannounced meeting on Saturday at the Joint Security Area in Panmunjom.
The two leaders discussed denuclearization and ongoing inter-Korean dialogue, according to South Korean government sources.
The meeting took place as diplomatic efforts continue regarding security and nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula.
South Korean officials stated that Kim Jong Un reiterated his position on the “complete denuclearization” of North Korea during the talks.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and stated that his administration would pursue further communication with North Korea.
He noted Kim’s statement on denuclearization and identified it as part of the ongoing negotiation process.
Government officials reported that the meeting followed a period of limited contact between the two countries. The previous months included increased regional diplomatic activity involving multiple governments, including the United States and Japan.
