LOS ANGELES — The late actor Sam Neill filmed an undisclosed role in Sony and Nintendo’s upcoming live-action “The Legend of Zelda” movie before his death, according to a Deadline report.
Neill, best known for playing Dr. Alan Grant in the “Jurassic Park” franchise, died July 13 in Sydney, Australia, from pneumonia. He was 78.
Deadline reported that Neill completed his scenes before production wrapped in April. The filmmakers have not disclosed his character, and representatives for Sony and Neill did not immediately comment, according to the report.
The film’s cast also includes Dichen Lachman, who will play Impa, a member of the Sheikah tribe who protects Hyrule’s royal family. Yvonne Strahovski has also joined the cast in a role sources described as a queen.
The production previously announced Uli Latukefu as the villain Ganondorf, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda.
Neill’s character remains undisclosed. Speculation has focused on roles such as the King of Hyrule, although the filmmakers have not confirmed those reports.
Wes Ball, who directed “The Maze Runner” and “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” directs the film.
“The Legend of Zelda” is scheduled to open in theaters in May 2027.
Neill’s other expected final film credits include the next “Godzilla x Kong” installment and “The Last Resort,” a romantic comedy starring Daisy Ridley.
