SAN DIEGO — Prime Video unveiled the first teaser trailer for the third season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” during its Comic-Con International panel on Saturday, previewing a darker chapter in the fantasy series as Sauron intensifies his quest to forge the One Ring.
The footage shows Middle-earth descending deeper into conflict, with kingdoms forming uneasy alliances as Sauron expands his campaign for domination.
Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay appeared at the Hall H panel alongside cast members Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charlie Vickers, Daniel Weyman and newcomer Jamie Campbell Bower. Benjamin Walker, who plays High King Gil-galad, moderated the event.
Prime Video also announced several additions to the cast. Eddie Marsan will play Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV. Andrew Richardson joins as Anárion, the younger son of Elendil and brother of Isildur, while Adam Young has been cast as the Orc character Marnûkh.
One of the panel’s biggest surprises was the announcement that actor Simon Pegg will voice the Balrog, marking the creature’s first speaking role in the series.
Fans attending the event also witnessed a live appearance by four armored Nazgnagôl, described as an earlier Second Age version of the Nazgûl, or Ringwraiths.
Season 3 is set five years after the fall of Eregion, with Sauron’s armies advancing across Middle-earth as he works in Barad-dûr to complete the One Ring. Elves, Dwarves, Men and Wizards must unite to stop his growing power.
The first four episodes of Season 3 will premiere on Nov. 11, followed by episodes five and six on Nov. 18. The final two episodes will debut on Nov. 25. The first two seasons are available to stream on Prime Video.
