Manila Regional Trial Court acquitted Pura Luka Vega, also known as Amadeus Fernando Pagente, on charges related to a viral performance.
Judge Czarina Samonte-Villanueva of Manila RTC Branch 184 delivered the ruling on June 10, clearing Vega of violating Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code.
The charges pertained to an alleged violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. The court’s 20-page decision found that the prosecution failed to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Pura Luka Vega faced allegations stemming from a performance of “Ama Namin” that gained widespread attention online. Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code addresses the penalization of obscene or indecent content.
The Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 also covers offenses related to online content.
The court’s ruling concluded that Vega’s performance did not meet the criteria of immorality as defined by the law. Judge Samonte-Villanueva emphasized the lack of sufficient evidence to prove the charges against Vega.
