SEOUL, South Korea — Squid Game creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk announced on Tuesday that while the main series will conclude with its upcoming finale on June 27, potential spin-offs may follow, exploring the broader universe of the global hit.
Speaking at a press conference, Hwang confirmed that there will be no Season 4 of the original Korean drama. However, he expressed interest in developing new content centered on the lives and backstories of characters introduced throughout the series.
“I often wonder what the characters were doing between seasons,” said Hwang, 54, who launched the acclaimed show in 2021. He noted that several storylines remain untapped and could be explored through future projects.
