MANILA, Philippines– The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Saturday, April 9, that the publication of the Certified List of Overseas Voters on websites complies with Republic Act No. 10590.

The announcement came in response to concerns raised by the Computer Professionals’ Union, which criticized the public posting of registered overseas Filipino voters’ details as a breach of data privacy and security.

The Comelec clarified that the online publication of the list is a legal requirement and fulfills provisions outlined in the law. The agency stressed that the action of posting the list, including full names and voter registration dates, is mandated by Republic Act No. 10590.

The Computer Professionals’ Union had expressed worries regarding data privacy, emphasizing the potential risks associated with releasing such information publicly. Nevertheless, the Comelec reiterated that the move aligns with legal obligations and transparency efforts.

Moreover, Comelec disclosed that approximately 48,000 out of 1.2 million registered overseas voters have registered for online voting in the upcoming 2025 elections.

This online participation is part of the electoral process for overseas Filipinos, providing them with the opportunity to partake in their national elections.

The Comelec aims to ensure a transparent and inclusive electoral process by adhering to legal mandates while addressing privacy concerns.
