HOUSTON, Texas — The Philippine Consulate General in Houston has issued a public advisory warning the Filipino community in the United States against the spread of false information on social media regarding dual citizenship and travel rights of lawful permanent residents.

In a statement released Tuesday, the Consulate clarified that the U.S. government has not made any changes to existing policies on dual citizenship or the travel rights of Filipino green card holders.

“The public is informed that false information is circulating on social media platforms that is causing concern among the Filipino community in the United States,” the Consulate said.

Filipinos are urged to verify information through official government sources, refrain from sharing unverified claims, and report any misleading content to the platforms where they appear. The Consulate also advised against making any legal decisions—such as renouncing Philippine citizenship—based on online posts.

“Renunciation of Philippine citizenship is a serious, irreversible legal action,” the advisory stated.

Community members seeking clarification are encouraged to contact the Consulate by emailing pcghouston.consular@gmail.com.
