Hollywood, CA – Paramount Pictures has released the highly anticipated trailer for “Gladiator II,” directed by Ridley Scott, who returns to helm the sequel to his 2000 Oscar-winning film starring Russell Crowe.

The trailer opens with a grown-up Lucius Verus, now portrayed by Paul Mescal, reminiscing about the final moments of Maximus Decimus Meridius, the iconic character played by Crowe in the original “Gladiator.” The trailer features clips from the first film, blending nostalgia with new storylines. Lucius is shown in conversation with Denzel Washington’s Macrinus, a powerful figure who manages gladiators and seeks to recruit the former heir to the Roman Empire.

Rome is depicted as being co-ruled by brothers Geta and Caracalla, played by Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger. The Colosseum, still a hub of glory for gladiators, is showcased with dramatic scenes, including a unique water battle at its center.

“Did you hear that crowd? The greatest temple Rome ever built — the Colosseum,” Macrinus says in the trailer. “Because this is what they believe in… power.”

The trailer also introduces Pedro Pascal’s character, Marcus Acacius, a general who trained under Maximus and led an army in North Africa. Macrinus continues his pitch to Lucius, who rallies fellow gladiators under the watchful eye of his mother, Lucilla (a returning Connie Nielsen), who is unaware of her son’s whereabouts.

Set to the powerful beats of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild,” the trailer shows Macrinus promising to elevate Lucius’ glory and reunite him with Marcus, demanding no payment other than his loyalty. The intensity builds as Lucius questions Rome’s treatment of its heroes, leading to a dramatic confrontation with Marcus in the Colosseum.

“Gladiator II” is set to premiere in Philippine cinemas on November 20.
