Texas ranks among the worst states in the U.S. for package theft, according to a new study, even as incidents nationwide show signs of slowing.
The report, released Wednesday, analyzed national complaint data, insurance claims, and survey responses to assess which states experience the highest levels of stolen deliveries. Texas recorded higher-than-average rates of theft from porches, mailrooms, and other delivery locations.
Major metropolitan areas including Austin, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio contributed to the state’s ranking. Survey data indicate that residents report stolen packages at single-family homes, apartment complexes, and workplace delivery points.
Researchers attribute the national slowdown in package theft to increased use of security cameras, delivery lockers, in-store pickup, and real-time notifications. However, many Texas households and businesses continue to experience thefts.
The study found that stolen items in Texas include electronics, clothing, household goods, and items such as medication.
