MANILA, Philippines– Hajji Alejandro, a prominent figure in Original Pilipino Music (OPM), passed away on April 21 at the age of 70.
His family confirmed that his death came two months after he was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer.
Alejandro rose to fame in the 1970s, gaining popularity for his vocal talent and charismatic presence. He became a favorite among Filipino youth, particularly college audiences, and was known for his boy-next-door charm that endeared him to fans across the country.
His career produced several hit songs that became staples in the Philippine music scene.
Throughout the decades, Alejandro remained a central figure in OPM, earning multiple awards and accolades for his contributions to the genre. His influence helped pave the way for future generations of Filipino artists.
His family has requested privacy during this period of mourning. Plans for a memorial service have not yet been announced.
