The NBI, led by Chief Jaime Santiago, reported that the two women were intercepted in Malaysia before receiving a parcel suspected of containing illegal substances.
The operation emphasizes the need for constant vigilance and international cooperation in tackling drug trafficking.
Authorities in Malaysia and the Philippines worked together to track and intercept the package meant for women, demonstrating the value of shared intelligence and operational support in combating transnational crime.
The case brings to mind the 2010 arrest of Mary Jane Veloso, a Filipina caught in Indonesia with 2.6 kilograms of heroin.
Veloso was sentenced to death, but her execution was halted following public and governmental advocacy.
