MANILA, Philippines — Miss Grand USA has named Victoria Oluwakotanmi its new 2026 titleholder after the organization terminated Mekayla Li’s reign less than two weeks after she won the crown.

The pageant organization announced Li’s removal in a statement posted on its social media accounts Wednesday, Aug. 19, saying it made the decision “in accordance with contractual policies” and released her from the Miss Grand USA title and its associated duties.

“We ask that all dialogue surrounding this transition remain respectful,” the organization said, adding that it does not tolerate bullying, harassment, defamation, degrading remarks or personal attacks.

Miss Grand USA did not disclose the specific reason for Li’s removal.

Li won the title during the Miss Grand USA finals on Aug. 10. The organization later faced questions from fans about her eligibility amid reports concerning an alleged 2024 hit-and-run incident and records showing she had previously been married.

Foreign media reported that Li faces criminal and civil proceedings related to the alleged incident. Divorce records also reportedly showed that she had been married.

The organization has not confirmed whether either matter contributed to Li’s removal.

Oluwakotanmi, who finished as first runner-up in the Aug. 10 competition, assumed the title and was announced as the new Miss Grand USA 2026 on Friday, Aug. 21.

She is expected to represent the United States at the Miss Grand International pageant, which will take place in India in October.
